Christianity

A religion once based on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. After the death of Jesus, Christianity became the earliest demonstration of successful mass marketing to the general public as Jesus’ disciples delivered what is considered a commercial and theological miracle. Until the advent of Morgan, Christianty was the best example of marketing ever created and it is a tribute to the brave marketing representatives who often gave their lives to protect, and expand their brand. The limit to which these brave salespeople went is a lesson to all Capitalist professionals as to what success entails and how to maintain a strong brand and message, even in the riskiest of times.

Basic Christian theology tells of a man reputed to be the son of god who made the ultimate sacrifice and achieved everlasting life for mankind. It was clean and neat and for the desperate consumer of the time, it was the perfect solution to an unsatisfied need.

The Christian brand prospered because it was able to protect its image through difficult time and intense competition. To the great credit of the early Christian marketers, offering everlasting life to the common man in a new and exciting way tapped into a revenue stream once thought exhausted. Two thousand years of economic success defies that.

Christianity specialized in marketing delivery since the technology wasn’t where it is today The brand sold as the reward for membership the promise of everlasting life in a place called heaven (you still had to pack up and go) and that this paradise could occur only after death and the promise came without warranty or guarantee, and first the consumer must satisfy clearly identified Christian requirements during a lifetime with a very clever loophole at death. Who could confirm paradise after death? But the growth in membership and the appearance of copycat religions over time proved Christianity to be an extraordinarily effective program (that it lasted for two millennia before technology finally caught up when most corporations fail in the first few years is a good indication).

But in the days of Jesus, life was simpler and economics was local. This allowed followers to readily commit. And though Jesus, himself, died by crucifixion and was buried and resurrected from the dead to attain membership all who believe in him and repent their sins are saved (salvation).

This promise proved effective until modern times. People began living longer and technology and medical breakthroughs were slowly pushing death from our doors. At first scientific papers were written contemplating life without death and then maladies of certain death were defeated. Not long after, only the great scourges were left and by the 2030s, even they were close to being defeated. Once there was nothing left to kill you, paradise no longer seemed so inviting and after two millenia, the Christian brand needed reworking.

That is when Saint Thomas Morgan appeared with a wonderful work around. Requiring only that Christian and Capitalist dogma merge which by then was not a far leap, Morgan offers the ultimate reward to mankind of everlasting live on earth to a new and growing customer base, the unrepentant, lustful and greedy while continuing to provide basic service to the slow adapters.

Everlasting life was at first branded for high net worth individuals. It was suitable compensation for the relentlessly productive, hard working, and cruel but fair Capitalists of the world. The success with the wealthy proved far more enticing and the rest of Christendom quickly signed up and so Morgan membership soared until it is now the largest and fastest growing religious brand that offers financial dividends as well as eternal life to the world.

The Morgan Church of the Almighty Dollar owns every life extension technology asset, and offers maintenance contracts as well as insurance along with its guarantee of life everlasting on earth as the ultimate reward for a productive life.

It wasn’t until after an impassioned debate among Christian Church corporate elders concerned with loss of membership revenue and mindful of the improved payback that modernization of Canon Law would generate that the Morgan Church agreed to a merger with first Catholic and then the major Protestent denominations, Mormon first. The last group to buy-in, not surprisingly was the Southern Baptist Convention. Today, under revised corporate codes, the Morgan Church has been reincorporated and the rest has been profitable, faith-based Capitalist-Christian economic history.

The Morgan Church’s religious symbol, the Almighty Dollar, (the gold and green American Dollar sign with an upright spear representing bull markets forever overlaying a silver lemniscate, the reward of life everlasting) is its primary go-to-market logo relegating the Crucifix, the symbol of the cross and Jesus’s life model to represent the Morgan Church’s Unincorporated Lands Poverty Management Division.

If we were to do the Second Coming of Christ in color for a full hour , there would be a considerable number of stations which would decline to carry it on the grounds that a Western or a quiz show would be more profitable.” E.R. Murrow 1950s

“The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and left untried.” G. K. Chesterton

“Who does not see that the same authority which can establish Christianity, in exclusion of all other religions, may establish with the same ease any particular sect of Christians, in exclusion of all other sects?” J. Madison

“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” J. Wesley

“I hope I live to see the day, when, as in the early days of our country, we won’t have any public schools. The churches will have taken them over again, and Christians will be running them.” Jerry Falwell, Evangelical Fundamentalist and founding pastor of the Thomas Road Baptist Church

“The so called ‘wall of separation’ between church and state is a liberal fabrication to try to put churches out of a place of indluence in political life.”  Bob Jones III, President of Bob Junes University

“We must have an autocratic theocracy to rule the world. So we cannot separate the political field from the religious. My dream is to organize a Christian political party indluding the Protestant denominations, Catholic, and all religious sects. We can ebrace the religious world in one arm and the political world in the other”  Reverend Sun Myung Moon, owner, Washington Time and head of the Unification Church

“There is no way that government can operate successfully unless led by godly men and women under the laws of the God of Jacob.” Pentacostal Reverend Pat Robertson, founder of the Christian Coalition

“The Republican Party of Lincoln has become a party of theocracy.” Congressman Christopher Shays

“By a series of recent initiatives, Republicans have transformed our party into the political arm of Conservative Christians. The elements of this transformation have included a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, opposition to stem cell research involving both frozen embryos and human cells in petri dishes, and the extraordinary effort to keep Terri Schiavo hooked up to a feeding tube.” Episcopal minister and former Republican Senator, John Danforth, 2005

Christmas

The four holiest days in the Morgan religion. Once commemorating the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, Christmases are staged as a quarterly sales events. In the late fall buying season, Autumnal Christmas replaces Halloween and is celebrated on the last day of October . As are all Morgan high holy shopping days, this is an intense commercial gift giving season.

In late summer, another traditionally slow economic time Labor Day Christmas is celebrated. During this period, corporate sponsored arts and crafts fairs help reduce retail inventory and increase employment while providing rebirth of the economy.

In Springtime, Easter giftgiving marks the end of the quarter as well as very competitive, professional egg hunts and a national chocolate orgy that has proven incredibly profitable.

And finally, in the last week of the second quarter, on what was determined was the birth day of Jesus and in combination with an old Jewish gift giving festival, Chrisnukkah is celebrated.

In antiquity, Christmas was a simple celebration that concentrated on giving. Today, with the great pressure to live creating a Capitalist utopia, consumers give thanks by celebrating economic gifting contests as well as formal gift theft parties where the win is based on value. In more traditional circles there is a formal exchange of greeting cards that has allowed America’s greeting card industry to survive through tough, unsentimental times.

During these quarterly holidays, it is not unusual to see overpriced displays of exotic decorations including trees, lights, garlands, mistletoe, popular children’s icons, and popular celebrity endorsements. The crèche can be a display of devotion traditionally placed under the tree and includes the logo of the Christ child who is credited with beginning our economic religion, a group of figures that represent the financial interests of the time, and a fashionably elaborate display of credit cards logos that represent the sacrifice that keeps on giving and keeps our economy strong and growing.

Once upon a time, a child dreamed of Santa Claus, a popular mythological figure associated with gift giving. Today that role has been outsourced to large private shipping corporations who deliver the requisite packages by truck to children staring wide eyed in wonder as they begin to appreciate America’s great economic canons.

The Christmas holiday seasons mark a critical point for the economy— macro and micro. Based on the results of sales during these events, for the retail business process supply chain, success during the Chrisnukkahs or Christmasses is essential to annual performance and this greatly effects eternal life and death.

Coalition of Christians

The very best part of America’s First Republic, the part that was saved and then improved upon by the Second Republic was the part played by the Coalition of Christians.

Once the U.S. Supreme Court determined that America’s Holy Framers of our unerring Constitution intended for National Corporations to be people, it was the Coalition that first recognized God’s future and built for it. For the first time since Jesus, people could be ongoing concerns, they could live forever!

With the Supreme Court decision, Corporate and Church interests became one, for now that corporate persons were eternal, surely individual humans were next. And verily it came to pass as health care grew to be too expensive and only the rich could afford the new, exciting patented life extending scientific and medical breakthroughs that were available. But individuals required great estates in order to fund access to these forever breakthroughs. Faith was critical, as always, but wealth alone was the only limitation to everlasting life, to dining with God at his home or yours on earth.

At first, the Christian community balked at and called it an affront, sacrilege, and the devil’s work but never dying has such great allure that once the Southern Corporate Coalition of Christians announced in favor of Heaven on Earth, they invested in forever communities with infinite duration adjustable rate mortgages at very low rates, the race to wealth and forever was on.

All knew that resources would eventually be limited, that is the burden of forever. To resolve this, certain criteria were made law and in America, what criterion is more valid than wealth and thus wealth legally defended meant life forever to those who could afford it.

To reduce the burn rate of existing resources, many Coalition preachers earned great incomes paid from Coalition of Christian Churches coffers to form congregations in opposition to forever on earth. A great many congregants, however contrite and holy, would never achieve the financial goals needed to qualify.

Thus these churches became the final distribution and elimination points under Circle of Life Laws passed to extend natural resources for ever and ever.

What Heaven’s Like

“All say, ‘How hard it is that we have to die’ – a strange complaint to come from the mouths of people who have had to live.” Mark Twain

“The idea is to die young as late as possible.” Ashley Montagu

“Death is a delightful hiding place for weary men.” Herodotus

“When you mix religion and politics, you get politics; When you mix religion and finance, you get greed. For its own sake and that of its followers, religion should have fought to remain separate from the corrupting world. It didn’t and it was too weak to suvive.” Berne Thau on the Morgan Church

Consciousness

Refers to the relationship between the mine and the world with which it interacts. Subjectivity, awarenesss and the ability to experience to feel, to empathize, having a sense of selfhood.

Consciousness was a major breakthrough in the development of artificial intelligence but having no other functional use in our society, it is no longer taught.

Contraception

Was it worth a country to win this argument? Prior to the end of the First Republic, as the religious right and aging Baby Boomers began to contemplate God more seriously in their day to day life, American politics shifted to a battle for his approval and the denial of his existence or at least influence. The political quagmire that created accelerated the decline of the Republic.

 God Spot

A tiny locus of nerve cells in the frontal lobe of the human brain that is activated during religious experience.

Neurotheology and Spiritual Neuroscience are sciences that study the correlation of neural phenomena that create subjective experiences of traditional spirituality categorized as real and intimate encounters with the presence of ones God.

Control of the God Spot was sought for more than a century by all the world’s religion and many of the great marketing corporations but the synthetic occurrence of spirituality could not be replicated until 2027 when Division IV Doritos National Football Champion Drexel University’s famed Powelton Village Laboratory isolated not only the sequence, but the chemical recipe and the critical infarction point that initiates true hosannas for the God of Man into every individual’s life.

The Pharma Division of the Morgan Church bid successfully to distribute Satan’s Prophylactics (as these products were branded by U.S. ANGS, LLC. in a joint venture with the Southern Christian Convention that helped fund the research for a significant share of the the profits).

The Church subsidizes the daily doses of Satan’s Prophylactics and U.S. ANGS distributes them in monthly packets much like contraception of old for women of child-bearing years and they charge a monthly national subscription price.

The profit from this Holy Joint Venture has tunded a great national Christian Mega-Church building program that has been credited with reducing America’s white unemployment by a third and having saved the souls and lives of over half of white uneducated and unemployed America.

The excess capacity created by the brilliant new edifices constructed from the profits of God Spot control was used to eliminate a great many of America’s public school systems, replacing them with the superior education by well-financed Christian private schools that have become famous for delivering life saving education while allowing government to downsize. Concurrently, the private, charter schools eliminated selfish and unproductive teachers’ unions.

Because tuition rates for these private schools have been guaranteed not exceed those of the very best private school’s in the country, in the years following the build out, there were no valid excuse for attending a good Christian School and those who refused lived to regret it. America’s great economic problem that history calls the Wasters wasn’t solved until the Circle of Life became the law of the land years later.

Halloween

Has roots in a Celtic festival Halloween was a Christian holy day that has been renamed Autumnal Christmas. Most of the Halloween traditions, costumes, Satanic worship, etc.. have been retained but a more intense gift-receiving ceremony has been incorporated in order to improve commercial sales during the first fiscal quarter of the Nation’s business year.

Hinduism

The predominant religious tradition of the Indian subcontinent. Hinduism is often referred to as the eternal law by its adherents. Hinduism includes yogic traditions and a wide spectrum of “daily morality” based on the notion of karma and societal norms such as Hindu marriage customs. Prominent themes in Hindu beliefs include (but are not restricted to), Dharma (ethics/duties), Samsara (The continuing cycle of birth, life, death and rebirth), Karma (action and subsequent reaction), Moksha (liberation from samsara), and the various Yogas (paths or practices).

Islam

The religion articulated by the Qur’an another book considered by its adherents to be the verbatim word of the single incomparable God (Arabic: Allah), and by the Islamic prophet Muhammad’s demonstrations and real-life examples. (In the old days, apparently God gave a large number of personal interviews for books.)

As to the basics: The word Islam translates as peace. Other meanings include submission, or the total surrender of oneself to God, and peace acquired by submission to the will of God. This plus a law that prohibits the charging of interest on business transactions should have made Muslims poor businessmen and capitalists but true religion wins out and they found ways to interpret the Qur’an that provide the permission to imitate Capitalism’s best practices.

Muslims regard their religion as the completed and universal version of a monotheistic faith revealed at many times and places prior, including, notably, to the prophets Abraham, Moses and Jesus both in the Middle East and in America.

After the First Republic ended, their was great resistance to the Morgan Church among Muslims but actual everlasting life as opposed to the promise of it and living forever on earth as opposed to in some Paradise turned out to be the deal breaker as mullahs refused to modify their brand and continued to dither in the past.

Judaism

A set of beliefs and practices originating in the Hebrew Bible and explored and explained in later texts such as the Talmud. Jews consider Judaism to be the expression of the covenantal relationship God developed with the Children of Israel before they were a great military power.

In the millenia that Jews lived in Europe, the Ottoman empire, and elsewhere as outcasts without a homeland, governments allowed them few commercial opportunities so a great many Jews became involved in the financial markets of the time which were prohibited to devout Christians and Mustims.

For that reason, and because God is financial by nature, the Jews were among the first to explore the capitalist theological agenda. Their comfort with finance is also the reason why, second to Baptists and Mormons, Jews were early supportors of and converters to the Morgan Church of the Almighty Dollar.

LDS Church

Mormons are a religious and cultural movement beginning with the visions of Joseph Smith in upstate New York during the 1820s. After Smith’s death in 1844 the Mormons followed Brigham Young to Utah. A vast majority of Mormons are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).

During the 19th century Mormons openly practiced plural marriage, a form of religious polygamy. Though polygamy is legal today, only the wealthiest Morgans are perfecting it.

Mormons dedicate large amounts of their time and resources to keeping their church profitable. To accomplish this, many young Mormons choose to serve a full time proselytizing mission. This business/theological activity provided easy conformance to Morgan Church funding requirements and made conversion to the Morgan Church and Stock Exchange simpler than for most other Christian Churches.

In the days of the First Republic, Mormons had a serious lifestyle that eschewed alcoholic beverages, tobacco, coffee, tea, and other addictive substances but this was eliminated once they joined the more people friendly Morgan Church. Living in Utah, Mormons tended to be very family-oriented, with strong connections across generations and with extended family. Since the time of the Great Downsizing that came with the Second Republic’s Circle of Life laws, relations like this are no longer possible and extended families are the exception rather than the rule.

Mormons still retain a strict chastity law requiring abstention from sexual relations outside of marriage(s) and strict fidelity within marriage(s). The Morgan Church doesn’t require this as its theology is basically whatever you can afford is moral.

Now Morgan and fully Christian, Mormons once had to self-identify as Christian because some of their beliefs differed from mainstream Christianity. Mormons believed in the Bible, as well as other books of scripture, but added the unique and idiosyncratic Book of Mormon to the Gospel inventory

Mormons also have a unique view of cosmology. They believe that all people are spirit-children of God and that Christ’s church was restored in America in the 1820s through Joseph Smith. They also believed in baptism after death but since death is avoidable, that is no longer an issue.

Mormons were guided by living prophets and apostles whereas today, Morgan financial advisers do quite nicely. Central to the Mormon faith was the belief that God spoke to his children and answered their prayers.

Today, faith in Morgan has members working hard to earn the high valued estates that will fund forever when all Capitalists walk with God on earth if need be.

Messiah

A permanent fixture In the Marketing Hall of Fame, the concept of a Messiah stands as one of the great breakthroughs of all time…

“I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ. The materialism of affluent Christian countries appears to contradict the claims of Jesus Christ that says it’s not possible to worship both with Mammon and God at the same time” M. K. Gandhi

Morgan Christianity

A Christian religion reformed by Saint Thomas Morgan, formerly Secretary of the Treasury under President Andrew Crelli. Morgan is the natural evolution of Christianity and Capitalism updated for modern American needs and it emphasizes the true value of money and productivity in God’s Holy Order and the Lord’s desire that mankind live forever, a wealthy, everlasting life at an ever-appreciating location of ones choosing.

Morgan puts few constraints on mankind but the most important is a member must have an unwavering belief in Capitalism in the name of Christ and the remorseless single mindedness to pursue wealth that only true faith can sustain.

It is God’s Will that the religious-economic fervor of true free market Christian-Capitalism allows Morgan followers to fund the medical treatments and technological breakthroughs that will allow human kind to evolve financially and physcially in order to live forever and ultimately to become gods themselves.

At its beginning, Morgan was a religion that attracted large corporate shareholders but since most small businesses depend on big business for their survival, soon smaller corporations and “S” corps of every size seized the faith.

The Great Awakening occured during the time of the Great Reengineeing of America that coincided with the earliest nationwide business downsizings due to the recessions of the late 20th and early 21st century. But it wasn’t until the 2030s, when Andrew Crelli was President and his Entrepreneur Party controlled Congress that the real work was done.

It was during this time that true Conservative Liquidation Theory replaced Government support and Keynesian economics and America was redeemed. The Crelli Government became more and more insensitive to the business cycle, allowing the normal flow of wealth and poverty to separate the good and the poor. With regular people no longer employed, everyone needed a strong economic belief to see them through the difficult times.

Secretary of the Treasury, Tom Morgan, the founder of Morgan, saw the benefits to Economc man and marketed his theology intensely, borrowing extensively from the Christian development playbook until by the mid 21st century, Morgan was the largest religion in the United States with virtually 100% of Corporate Officers and Board members, politicians, judges, and government officials, local and federal, subscribing to it.

Orthopraxy

This is a little known term derived from Greek meaning “correct action/activity”. It is a belief that places emphasis on conduct, both ethical and liturgical, as opposed to faith or grace or well being or money. It contrasts with orthodoxy which emphasizes a correct belief with more use of rituals.

Typically, traditional or folk religions (paganism, animism) are more concerned with orthopraxy than orthodoxy, and some argue that equating the term “faith” with “religion” presents a Christian-biased notion of what the primary characteristic of religion is.

We need to be the change we wish to see in the world.” M. K. Gandhi

Reason

Refers to the capacity human beings have to make sense of things, to establish and verify facts, and to change or justify practices, institutions, and beliefs. It is closely associated with such characteristically human activities as philosophy, science, language, mathematics, and art, and is normally considered to be a definitive characteristic of human nature.

It is one of the ways thinking goes from one idea to a related idea. How people think about cause and effect, truth and falsehood, and what is good or bad, profitable or unprofitable

Deductive and Inductive Reasoning

Religion

A system of human thought which usually includes a set of narratives, symbols, beliefs and practices that give meaning to the practitioner’s experiences of life through reference to a higher power, deity or deities, or ultimate truth. Religion is sometimes used interchangeably with “faith” or “belief system,” but it is more socially defined than personal convictions, and it entails specific behaviors, respectively.

More important, Religion is what makes Conducers fight for that extra shekel. And that makes all the difference in interpersonal relationships.

The History of Five Religions

Science

From the Latin, meaning knowledge. In its broadest sense, it is any systematic knowledge-base or prescriptive practice that is capable of resulting in a prediction or predictable type of outcome.

Science may refer to a highly skilled technique or practice. In its more restricted contemporary sense, science is a system of acquiring knowledge based on scientific method, and to the organized body of knowledge gained through such research.

The Official Assumption Song

Secular Humanism

A humanist philosophy that espouses reason, ethics, and justice and specifically rejects the supernatural and religious dogma as the basis of morality and decision-making.

Like other types of humanism, secular humanism is a life-stance that focuses on the way human beings can lead good, happy and functional lives without the faith and protocol of religion. Once a rising movement in the transition to Morgan, the earliest converts to Morgan were Secular Humanists and Mormons (due to profit motive) although those of true faith (Christian, Muslim, Jew, Hindu, et al.) quickly adapted and followed.

What is the Joad Cycle

The Joad Cycle is a series of dystopian speculative fiction novels set in our America from 2032-2084 after a Constitutional Coup has brought to power an extreme Right Wing, Christian, Libertarian Entrepreneur who is the leader of the new Entrepreneur Party. In this America, business interests rule, government has been marginalized. and the poor and the middle class no longer exist, the result of a massive economic genocide. To survive, every citizen lives to create wealth and should living cost more than they can generate in value to the economy, they are executed. Mostly, this is an Anti-capitalist Love Story.

$$$ How to Read this Site $$$

This site is mostly fictional and it supports the novels, providing backstory and additional related short stories that take place within the world of the Joad Cycle.

The site offers a Blog and Journal from the perspective of one main character, the hero of the first book, The Golden Rule . This character, Bernie Rosenthal who is very liberal politically, works as Chief Financial Officer for U.S. Angs, a multinational multibillion dollar private corporation owned by Tom Gorman and Tom Morgan, the Toms, who represent ultra Conservative Koch brother types. Bernie is humbled by the tyrannical Toms during the day and finds a release journaling his job frustration. Meanwhile, Bernie's future self, Berne Thau, adds to the blog entries with his perspective, more than 30 years in the future, after money, greed, and the Right Wing revolution end the American Republic .

We are living in trying times. According to Berne Thau, they will get much more difficult.

Why this curmudgeon wrote this story

Every generation, parents tell their children that life was better back when they were young… and the children always scoff.

But now that I have qualified to pass judgment on that age-old warning, now that I’ve been both young and old, I have come to realize that the old have it right and children scoff at their peril though in the ways that American society has been taught to measures success, every generation since maybe the turn of the twentieth century anyway, has had it better.

But with age, and career experience, I have learned that those ways are deceptive and worse, they are wrong. Success is measured based on wealth, conveniences, and life expectancy issues when it should be evaluated on what we hope to be as individuals and what we become as people—the expectancy of life.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been successful enough. For most of my baby boomer life I was comfortable middle class interspersed with a few years of unfortunate decline towards impoverishment, never quite getting there before bootstrapping back to comfort.

For a time, I was a certified member of the 1%—in income though not in wealth. The 1% is a class of people who rule their part of the world and have a lot of confidence that somebody they know rules the rest of it. I wasn’t a one-percenter for many years, but it was a good life until my associations made me believe that I just didn’t want it anymore. I apologize to my family for what I had become and these novels are my penance.

People congratulated me for the success I’d earned as if those less and least successful earned that lack as well. And with the memory of a manufacturing facility in a small, rural, one-employer town in out-of-the-way Northern Maine near the Canadian border closed to improve a bottom line somewhere else, with an American town murdered for earnings per share, I signed off and began to write the The Joad Cycle.

In my research, I came to fear for my family that grew from the narrowest and shallowest possible family tree to three generations deep and two wide. My family is important and so I wrote these novels for them, for their future, for what I dread we have taken from them and will continue to take, long after we are dead.

I live in the Midwest and my friends are good people and I value them. They are conservative and most are Christians and somehow, we argue over unions as if union members aren’t patriotic Americans, too, and besides, what is to be gained by condemning workers in a country of workers. And we disagree on the poor? Social Safety Nets may not be working as well as they could (But how would we know if these Safety Nets are working? It is not as if some brave politician will stand up and precisely define what a win looks like in the freest, richest country in the history of history—and seriously, doesn’t free-form Capitalism deserve the bulk of the blame with its all-encompassing goal of creating winning humans and losing humans).

And discussions on life and death with my conservative friends, life at the very beginning and the very end, and guns and gods…forget about it. But unlike politicians and the media, we are friends so we work around the discomfort and the dislike for the greater good.

My friends are the current version of the salt of the earth and all of us abide by family values above all, even if we can’t agree on them. Good people like us accept a society where too many of our children are handled by strangers during the critical formative years. And in the twilight years too many parents and grandparents are handled by strangers until their money runs out, like sand in an hourglass, their lives extended only so far as Government security or private insurance will grant.

And when Americans finally expire after insufferable pain and embarrassment and to the sighs of sad but relieved loved ones, it reveals the immaturity of the vast majority of the American people who won’t resolve; once and for all, when God’s reason ends life and so they leave that to for-profit resolution. Can’t it just be in the fading twinkle of an ancient woman’s eyes?

But all of this pales to the legacy of GREED! Greed, that race for wealth that is ingrained in us all from television at a too early age that drives us to become economically viable so that with something extra in our paychecks at the end of the week, we can indulge ourselves with gifts, with palliatives, to relieve the pain and discomfort that we feel for doing what we must do to earn what wealth we cab. Greed is the satisfying of artificial and constant cravings.

And those who are considered the best of us, majority stockholders, officers of corporations, politicians, and celebrities all at the top of their respective food chains, they earn their way into the 1% and possessing this true wealth, they gift themselves truly extraordinary palliatives in order to compensate for something deeply unsatisfying within that was once more human, what they lost in the dog-eat-dog world that we all live in.

This is the world that we pass on to our children and our grandchildren. This world is what will own them someday like it owns us today. They are truly greed’s legacy. That too is the basis for my cautionary tale of America’s future, The Joad Cycle.

But I still idealize my youth. I remember what it felt like when I was a boy and so I wrote a grand love story, too.
