Society

Community

Any combination of units, whether virtual or real that create economic value. Though no registration is required to make a group a community, like all things, sustained profitability is a basic requirement for viability.

Compassion

An historically attractive but economically unproductive and treatable human emotion prompted by the pain or discomfort of others. More intensely disabling to productive instinct than mere empathy, in unbridled human nature, compassion commonly gives rise to the unattractive and unproductive interest to alleviate another’s suffering, often (unexplainably) to the potential detriment of one’s self.

Compassion is often, though not inevitably, the key component in what manifests as altruism, a behavior that demeans and diminishes business performance. Clearly this is a human weakness that needs treating and there is a high correlation between this affliction and what through the ages has been identified as a genetic susceptibility to the Golden Rule (doing for others what you would like them to do to you…)

In a real sense, poor business decisions, loss of wealth and other life threatening catastrophes can be directly related to this flaw, this weakness of character. Most insurance corporations will charge a significant premium to procide economic protection from individual actions caused by compassion and the Financial Supreme Court has declared that all who elect to be covered for compassion’s risks be identified in a nationwide data base so employers and business partners can be made aware of the danger.

“What does labor want? We want more schoolhouses and less jails; more books and less arsenals; more learning and less vice; more leisure and less greed; more justice and less revenge; in fact, more of the opportunities to cultivate our better natures, to make manhood more noble, womanhood more beautiful, and childhood more happy and bright.” S. Gompers

“No kind action ever stops with itself. One kind action leads to another. Good example is followed. A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees. The greatest work that kindness does to others is that it makes them kind themselves.” A. Corporate Welfare

An oxymoron and a damn lie. No corporate funding from any source can be considered welfare if a risk analysis has been performed and is reflected in the cost of the cash inflow. As long as a corporation generates a profit and dividends are distributed normally, there cannot be welfare.

During the First Republic when Democrats were universally condemned for skimming Federal profits and redirecting them to the poor and those who perform work with the poor, Liberals have tried to saddle Conservatives with a welfare program of their own. But no amount of funds invested in corporations is ever welfare so this term is clearly derogatory in nature, typical of what is put forth by Socialists to describe the government bestowal of money grants, tax and tariff breaks, basic research and development support and many, many other financial treatments that are beneficial to the marketplace even if they are significant help to target corporations .

The term Corporate Welfare attempts to conflate corporate-government partnerships with subsidies and welfare payments to Wasters and low yield Conducers and it implies that corporations are needy and dependent on the government for success. This claim is feeble and ungrounded.

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies, in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. The world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, and the hope of its children.” D. Eisenhower

Empathy

Identify with another’s feelings. Believe it or not, to emotionally put yourself in the place of another unless you do that to take advantage of a situation. This is not getting inside someone’s head which is a critical part of business strategy. Empathy is just another touchy feeling remnant of less competitive days when Liberals influenced the land. (see Compassion).

By the end of the First Republic, empathy had reached epidemic proportions and had to be eradicated, which it was thanks to advanced brain chemistries.

The R & D campaign that ended empathy was funded by Corporate America and work continues on other anti-business maladies, some caused by parents raising their children, some by generations of misguided anticapitalist religious people.

This organized research has had a great affect on the Conducer population of the Second Republic by effectively diminishing emotional responses in workers and others where it is counterproductive.

There’s a lot of talk in this country about the federal deficit. But I think we should talk more about our empathy deficit – the ability to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes; to see the world through the eyes of those who are different from us – the child who’s hungry, the steelworker who’s been laid-off, the family who lost the entire life they built together when the storm came to town. When you think like this – when you choose to broaden your ambit of concern and empathize with the plight of others, whether they are close friends or distant strangers – it becomes harder not to act; harder not to help.” B. Obama (The First and Last Socialist President)

Entitlements

A guarantee of benefits because of some fabricated right or by some agreement through bogus law. In a more casual sense, it also refers to someone’s belief that they are somehow deserving beyond their ability to produce.

Entitlements destroyed America and as such, they have been forbidden in the Second Republic. (See Corporate Welfare)

Family

Any combination of two or more personal corporations combining legally to form an essential economic unit. To qualify as a family, one of a series of investments is required: Joint home ownership, a legal commitment to pursue family expansion adding liabilities with the intent to convert them to assets, or the legal sharing of estates. Family corporations are required to be accretive in order to continue.

Divestiture and dissolution are the formal processes that end families and they must be approved by creditors.

The Fourth Estate

France before the French Revolution divided society into three estates: the First Estate (clergy — The Cross); the Second Estate (nobility—The Spear); and the Third Estate (merchants and the masses— The Money). The king was above the estates.

The Fourth Estate, the news media was a societal or political force or institution whose influence in society was significant though not officially recognized.

Until the end of the First Republic, in America,  the Fourth Estate was independent of the government, often providing restraint over the other three Estates by exposing their unfairness  (Speaking truth to power was not hyperbole).

But as the Second and Third Estates began to merge to squeeze the First Republic,  the Fourth Estate succumbed to corporate moneyed interests and was utilized primarily for propaganda. When moneyed interests became the government in America’s second Republic, the fourth estate was utilized for government supporting entertainment and sadly no new institution sprang up to fill the void.

Global Climate Change

A term given to the change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns over periods of time that range from decades to millions of years. Climate Change can mean a change in the average weather or a change in the distribution of weather events around an average climate change and may be limited to a specific region or may occur across the whole Earth. It can be caused by recurring, often cyclical climate patterns such as El Niño-Southern Oscillation, or come in the form of more singular events such as the Dust Bowl in the United States in the 1930’s.

During the latter days of America’s First Republic, the climate change movement was a liberal connivance that coerced government and business into bankruptcies by requiring that they divert much needed funds from productive enterprises so that investments could be made in environmental companies supported by liberals.

In conjunction with the Alliance of Fossil Fuel Corporations and its supporting Capitalist Think Tanks, apocalyptic Christian end-of-lifers, and Republicans, a Global Climate Change Law was passed which decrees that until corporate America spends at least 10% of its annual budget on remediation due to variant climate issues, climate change does not exist..

In 2035 a Climate Change study funded by Crelli Enterprises and prepared by the Waste Management College of Drexel University concluded that spending on the environment and climate change was wasteful because America had not yet developed the technology to measure the benefits. In addition, the study recognized that the Earth is a big planet and no amount of spending could change something as immense. Soon after the study, all environmental funding was re-directed toward more profitable ventures and existing environmental assets were auctioned off.

Mistakes happen, even in a free market Capitalist economy, but in a Capitalist system, mistakes are self-correcting. After 2030, with rising tides forever altering the lives of thousands of corporations with facilities built on or near disappearing coastal property and with fresh water ever more expensive and intense storms greatly adding to logistics costs of around the world it has become clear, financialy, that our climate has changed.

From a sales and marketing point businesses have been negatively affected as well. Millions of consumers and employees have died and millions more have migrated away as climate refugees putting additional stress on local and national enterprises. But that has created opportunities too. And though food has become scarce, energy too, and water is the most valuable compound on earth, wealth can still acquire what it needs.

That is why America is an Objectivist’s dream. Those who can, do, those who can’t starve to death or die of thirst.

In risk mitigation studies, it was pointed out that during the early part of the 21st century when Corporate America might have done something to mitigate the risk, too many  special interest groups put pressure on the government to study instead of solve the problem and politicans not supported by business dutifully passed on the responsibility to act to future generations.

Proving that business is endlessly resourceful, while thousands perished after every coastal storm; contractors were busily creating on new coastline, islands, and inlets, future real estate for long term appreciation.

Gun Control

During the wasteful latter years of the First Republic, Gun Control, like abortion and so many other culture issues that were settled law, were kept active, political expediency to insure voters remained active and hostile to the other side.

However, due to declining tax revenues, federal and local government was no longer able to fund domestic security so gun ownership increased as armed citizens and well-armed private militia filled the void.

To reduce the incessant liability law suits that threatened to inundate the Courts, in 2040, PIDs (Personal Identification Devices) were required on each weapon in order to activate it. Then, with ever increasing sophistication, forensics and anticipatory forensics eliminated most criminals before they inflict harm on the economy.

Finally, during the reign of Chairwoman Tanya Brandt, as Conducers were forced to spend wisely or perish and gun sales declined, gun production was stopped. Gun use was eliminated when PID’s were given the functionality to disable, maim, or kill if necessary.

Hero

The cult of the hero was one of the most distinctive features of ancient Greek religion. In Greek mythology and folklore, a hero was a demigod. Later on, the hero (male) and heroine (female) came to refer to characters who, in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, display the economic courage and the unflagging will to succeed – that is, heroism.

Entrepreneurial courage for profit extended into more measurable brilliance as in extraordinary wealth or stupendous returns on a particularly risky investment.

Tales of heroism serve as examples of the right way for Conducers to live and who to emulate. The unique susceptibility to tales of heroism by mature American adults has made hero worship profitable, creating a revenue stream that sponsors benefit from year after year.

For a Conducer, a hero is a businessman or a technology guru, any American with wealth and notoriety. And by worshipping these people, Conducers have a direct hand in generating large profits for the corporations that manufacture these heroes and by so doing, Conducers further honor wealth.

Immigration

In the 1870’s, during the first Conservative Age (1860-1918, the second Conservative Age was 1980-2016, and the last Conservative Age began in 2032), conservatives strongly opposed immigration unless it was cost effective (like bringing in the Chinese to build the railroads).

Immigrants are unfamiliar with America’s political traditions, language, and economic faith, and so conservatives were concerned about the effect that ignorance would have on conservative ideals and voting habits.

Then, because immigrants tended to be poor, they found homes in the Democrat Party. That cinched it for Conservatives who vehemently opposed citizenship but it was the great pogroms that began in the 2030s that eradicated unprofitable immigrants who supported liberal government.

Justice

The proper ordering of things and persons within a society and what that demands in a society. In America, justice is simple. Anything profitable is just and though fairness has been historically and culturally linked to Justice, in Financial Supreme Court rulings, the involvement of fairness has been misinterpreted.

People in a free society will always act in their own self interest and so Justice is more appropriately fair but cruel. This distinction is transparent to the successful and the winners and true fairness should be but is often not motivation for the unsuccessful and the losers. Justice is also blind but it does seem to operate as if an invisible hand is guiding it.

Studies at Drexel University’s School of Forensic Finance have identified a part of the human brain that is activated by fairness. This is consistent with the notion that to the untrained economic mind, being treated fairly satisfies a basic need.

Altering the human brain, chemically, was necessary because in highly competitive free markets fairness doctrines can be lethal to the less competitive in a game everyone is playing to win.

“Liberty, equality – bad principles! The only true principle for humanity is justice; and justice to the feeble is protection and kindness.” H.F. Amiel

Marriage

The law incorporates many variations to what was once called marriage. The incorporation vehicle most frequently applied for by couples is the “M” Corp designation which is somewhat like the marriages of antiquity but with special depreciation allowances that apply and are advantageous to a Conducer’s Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss Statement particularly the decision to expand the corporate umbrella with the addition of young liabilities.

The second most frequent form of incorporation is the “G” Corp which is the simplest under the law and because of the accounting treatment advantages given when the decision has been made not to incur young liabilities.

The third most frequent form of incorporation is the “V” corp best applied for once an estate reaches forever annuity status/ The loopholes provided with this status all but guarantee the majority stockholders will never run out of cash or lifestyle. This is a great legal and financial gratuity bestowed only on those successfully pursuing never ending times.

Note: The best decision for your personal financial situation should be discussed with your Forever Support Staff (Attorney, Accountant, and Religious Investment Councilor) for while it is possible to change your form of incorporation when forever is in the balance, paid expertise is truly invaluable.

Peace

A quality describing business relationships operating harmoniously and and advantageously for all parties. There is commonly understood to be an absence of legal oversight and a feeling that there is current safety in matters of economic welfare as well as an acknowledgment of acceptable stasis that at the moment is preferable to conflict litigation.

Reflection by the parties at peace on the nature of the peace is bound up with considerations for the effect of its absence or loss with all parties currently accepting that risk.

As soon as the negotiated equilibrium is no longer advantages for one or more of the parties and the cost of changing the status is perceived to have a significant payout over the risk of loss, economic peace ends until a new stasis can be found, the parties are absorbed into a larger or a different entity, or one or more of the parties is utterly destroyed.

Poverty

From the standpoint of the human condition, this is absolute failure. After all, the human is worthless!

Poverty refers to the condition of not having the means to afford even basic human needs such as water, nutrition, health care, clothing or shelter, and common affordable necessities including an estate of reasonable, life extending value. This means that a person is a greater cost than benefit to society giving society no choice but to expunge that human from the equation.

When the First Republic was failing, funding for poverty absorbed more of the government budget than the poor could replace in taxes. It was a hopeless economic transaction.

In 2032, when President Andrew Crelli took his oath of office, he vowed to eliminate poverty. Through his Circle of Life legislation, poverty was finally eradicated on June 23, 2047 when, in a final ceremony, Joshua B. Turnstall of Macon Georgia was executed on national television.

Public Education

For centuries, America’s First Republic failed future generations by insisting that free markets alone resolve rectify deficiencies. When a small adjustment in any one of many programs could have found the funds to make America’s schools the best in the world, the money was never found although sincere promises never failed.

Early in the Second Republic, taxes were declared unconstitutional by the Financial Supreme Court and the IRS and other taxing agencies were disbanded. Unfunded Public Schools were shuttered and teachers and school administration eliminated which caused private education corporations to grow and their stockholders prospered.

For the children who couldn’t keep up with Private School requirements, subsistance level menial jobs becamse available for a great many children from age of ten and up. If a child was unable to meet job requirements, the Circle of Life legislation provided for their immediate execution. Such motivation proved a boon to Private Education which soon was the best in the world. Corporate Schools eventually were forced to cut costs as profits declined and thus Virtual Education through the technology of Archive enabled School Corporations to meet their stockholders’ requirements.

Student motivation from the inception of The Circle of Life laws has been universally credited with providing the proper incentives in a free market economy that created the modern American laborer and the preeiminant labor force in the world. By 2040, there were a great deal fewer laborers and jobs which made the education industry more profitable.

Income Redistribution

Income redistribution was once the term offered by Progressives for their feeble, ungodly attempts to even out the income that individuals earn, irrespective of performance or connections. Progressives proposed this solution in order to make government the largest national employer of record expecting that this would obligate employees to vote for and elect Progressives. That was how far Progressives were willing to pervert Democracy and it cost them big time.

Conservatives have a far better way. Private Industry is a more efficient provider of jobs but private enterprise employees are easily confused and often did not vote in their best interest and opposed Conservative Capitalists. After the Circle of Life legislation culled the workforce down to its Capitalist base, that issue was resolved. For easily confused workers, it was their loss.

In an attempt to demonstrate to workers the restorative, theologial nature of riches, a 2031 study by the Drexel University School of Private Policy determined that twenty five percent (25%) of Americans from all classes believed they were in the top one percent (1%) of income earners (!) while fully another twenty-five percent (25%!) truly believed they would be in the top one percent (1%) with a few breaks.

“We do not have a money problem in America. We have a values and priorities problem.” M.W. Edelman

Trust

Trust is a transitory thing but the absence of trust created government. And at best, you should never rely on an institution that can only disappoint you and you may not sue.

Humans rely on a clock to give us the time but we do not feel betrayed when it breaks, thus, we cannot say that we trust the clock. Anyone who trusts anything but the Lord God of Heaven and Earth accepts the risk (or likelihood) of being betrayed.

Good character or the morality of another is irrelevant because even persons engaged in a criminal activity trust each other to some extent and trust is necessary if someone is going to screw you but in reality, trust says more about you and the limits of your ability to function successfully in a capitalst world.

“Trust, once lost is never found.” Unknown

“Trust but verify.” Russian Proverb

Truth

Defines the state of being the case, being in accord with a particular fact or reality, being in accord with the body of real things, events, actuality, or fidelity to an original or to a standard as defined in the Universal Commercial Guide Book. Also known as “letting your guard down.”

In archaic usage it meant fidelity, constancy or sincerity in action, character, and utterance. Now that the emprical greatness of Capitalism has given fidelity no license, no economic relevance, These meanings for truth have slipped into antiquity.

According to professional Economists or Financial Supreme Court Justices, there is no single definition of truth and various theories and views of truth continue to be debated.

There are competing claims on such questions as what constitutes truth; what makes someone a truth bearer, what is capable of being true or false; how to identify truth; and whether truth is subjective, relative, objective, virtual, or absolute.

Because this confusion affects commercial trade, as a part of the 2nd Amendment to the Second Republic’s Second Constitution of the United states, the adaptive Commercial Guide Book (Generally Accepted Principles and Practices or GAPP) was created to identify and clarify situations where the truth applies for economic purposes (situations like truth in advertising, truth in lending, speaking truth to power, fair and balanced, keeping them honest (a variation on the theme)).

In commercial application, truth has many interpretations.

The one truth however is that the better situated you are financially, the more truth you can buy.

“During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.” G. Orwell

“We don’t err because the truth is difficult to see, it is visible at a glance. We err because it is comfortable.” A. Solzhenitsyn

“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie, deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth – persistent, persuasive and unrealistic.” J.F. Kennedy

War

A state or period of intense hostility between two or more non-congruous corporate entities, aimed at reorganizing a subjectively designed, eco-politically desired result.

Western war expert Carl Von Clausewitz called it the “continuation of political intercourse, carried on with other means.” Without consideration of economic outcome, Von Clausewitz’s view was limited, naive, and wrong. War is economic intercourse carried on for economic gain. We are and will remain in a perpetual war to the greater glory of God and Capitalism

Actual war, real physical war, the wanton destruction of assets in order to alter political or economic landscapes is unacceptable to business leaders and stockholders, worldwide. For the defeat of an enemy, it is an unacceptable tactic in the continual global competition for superiority. There are so many more effective ways to kill.

Responsible corporations implement victory conditions every day and each is a teaching moment.

“War is so complex it’s beyond the ability of the human mind to comprehend. Our judgment, our understanding, are not adequate and we kill people unnecessarily.” R. McNamara

“Only the dead have seen the end of wars.” G. Santyana

Thirty Seconds to Mars: This is War.

Welfare

The Satanic chains of welfare and entitlements choked and destroyed America’s First Republic whose welfare entitlements consisted of actions or procedures on the part of governments to define a basic state of well being in those who don’t deserve well being and then divert funds from the productive to pay for that undeserved well-being of who won’t meet a Capitalist societies minimum standards for survival—earn your keep! (See bureaucracy). For their mortal sin of perpetrating a great theft on the wealthy, America’s First Republic was executed and a Second, more business friendly one took its place. God is good.

Welfare State

A socialist model outmoded in the 20th century and last used by the First Republic of the United States of America until 2032. It is a condition in which the state assumes primary responsibility for the good and welfare of its citizens in direct opposition to the interests of the productive who take care of themselves. For those who implement this tactic to remain in power, this responsibility must be comprehensive and affect all aspects and must be universally applied to citizens as a “right.”

Welfare state propaganda claims the creation of a “social safety net” of minimum standards of living, protecting the worst and penalizing the best of society. In many countries, particularly the United States and most in Europe where only some degree of welfare was provided by the state, these countries claimed Free Enterprise Capitalism but any form of welfare, no matter how limited makes a country a Welfare State.

A woman can’t be half pregnant. The great sin of a welfare state involves the direct transfer of funds from the productive private sector that grows the economy and employs its citizens to welfare recipients, economic terrorists, lazy, slothful people who game the system for their advantage and produce nothing of value other than the purchase of celebrity magazines, drugs and alcohol. Worse, most welfare states reward child bearing with stipends! (Go figure. Those societies invariably prefer abortion.)

From a religious point of view, welfare drains the economy of its vitality and as waste; there is no choice but to eliminate it. In a democracy, the political battle was often waged around welfare because it was a critical element in the battle for votes. Progressives had little to offer ideologically so they used Government payments to convince the masses of unproductive to vote for them and as a reward, these Wasters would receive handouts.

In the end, Conservative Free Market Capitalists finally decided that battle was no longer worth waging and the result was fabulous economic history. It has been said that the character of a nation is determined by how it handles its poor and downtrodden. America is a productive nation

“A nation that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both.” D. Eisenhower

What is the Joad Cycle

The Joad Cycle is a series of dystopian speculative fiction novels set in our America from 2032-2084 after a Constitutional Coup has brought to power an extreme Right Wing, Christian, Libertarian Entrepreneur who is the leader of the new Entrepreneur Party. In this America, business interests rule, government has been marginalized. and the poor and the middle class no longer exist, the result of a massive economic genocide. To survive, every citizen lives to create wealth and should living cost more than they can generate in value to the economy, they are executed. Mostly, this is an Anti-capitalist Love Story.

$$$ How to Read this Site $$$

This site is mostly fictional and it supports the novels, providing backstory and additional related short stories that take place within the world of the Joad Cycle.

The site offers a Blog and Journal from the perspective of one main character, the hero of the first book, The Golden Rule . This character, Bernie Rosenthal who is very liberal politically, works as Chief Financial Officer for U.S. Angs, a multinational multibillion dollar private corporation owned by Tom Gorman and Tom Morgan, the Toms, who represent ultra Conservative Koch brother types. Bernie is humbled by the tyrannical Toms during the day and finds a release journaling his job frustration. Meanwhile, Bernie's future self, Berne Thau, adds to the blog entries with his perspective, more than 30 years in the future, after money, greed, and the Right Wing revolution end the American Republic .

We are living in trying times. According to Berne Thau, they will get much more difficult.

Why this curmudgeon wrote this story

Every generation, parents tell their children that life was better back when they were young… and the children always scoff.

But now that I have qualified to pass judgment on that age-old warning, now that I’ve been both young and old, I have come to realize that the old have it right and children scoff at their peril though in the ways that American society has been taught to measures success, every generation since maybe the turn of the twentieth century anyway, has had it better.

But with age, and career experience, I have learned that those ways are deceptive and worse, they are wrong. Success is measured based on wealth, conveniences, and life expectancy issues when it should be evaluated on what we hope to be as individuals and what we become as people—the expectancy of life.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been successful enough. For most of my baby boomer life I was comfortable middle class interspersed with a few years of unfortunate decline towards impoverishment, never quite getting there before bootstrapping back to comfort.

For a time, I was a certified member of the 1%—in income though not in wealth. The 1% is a class of people who rule their part of the world and have a lot of confidence that somebody they know rules the rest of it. I wasn’t a one-percenter for many years, but it was a good life until my associations made me believe that I just didn’t want it anymore. I apologize to my family for what I had become and these novels are my penance.

People congratulated me for the success I’d earned as if those less and least successful earned that lack as well. And with the memory of a manufacturing facility in a small, rural, one-employer town in out-of-the-way Northern Maine near the Canadian border closed to improve a bottom line somewhere else, with an American town murdered for earnings per share, I signed off and began to write the The Joad Cycle.

In my research, I came to fear for my family that grew from the narrowest and shallowest possible family tree to three generations deep and two wide. My family is important and so I wrote these novels for them, for their future, for what I dread we have taken from them and will continue to take, long after we are dead.

I live in the Midwest and my friends are good people and I value them. They are conservative and most are Christians and somehow, we argue over unions as if union members aren’t patriotic Americans, too, and besides, what is to be gained by condemning workers in a country of workers. And we disagree on the poor? Social Safety Nets may not be working as well as they could (But how would we know if these Safety Nets are working? It is not as if some brave politician will stand up and precisely define what a win looks like in the freest, richest country in the history of history—and seriously, doesn’t free-form Capitalism deserve the bulk of the blame with its all-encompassing goal of creating winning humans and losing humans).

And discussions on life and death with my conservative friends, life at the very beginning and the very end, and guns and gods…forget about it. But unlike politicians and the media, we are friends so we work around the discomfort and the dislike for the greater good.

My friends are the current version of the salt of the earth and all of us abide by family values above all, even if we can’t agree on them. Good people like us accept a society where too many of our children are handled by strangers during the critical formative years. And in the twilight years too many parents and grandparents are handled by strangers until their money runs out, like sand in an hourglass, their lives extended only so far as Government security or private insurance will grant.

And when Americans finally expire after insufferable pain and embarrassment and to the sighs of sad but relieved loved ones, it reveals the immaturity of the vast majority of the American people who won’t resolve; once and for all, when God’s reason ends life and so they leave that to for-profit resolution. Can’t it just be in the fading twinkle of an ancient woman’s eyes?

But all of this pales to the legacy of GREED! Greed, that race for wealth that is ingrained in us all from television at a too early age that drives us to become economically viable so that with something extra in our paychecks at the end of the week, we can indulge ourselves with gifts, with palliatives, to relieve the pain and discomfort that we feel for doing what we must do to earn what wealth we cab. Greed is the satisfying of artificial and constant cravings.

And those who are considered the best of us, majority stockholders, officers of corporations, politicians, and celebrities all at the top of their respective food chains, they earn their way into the 1% and possessing this true wealth, they gift themselves truly extraordinary palliatives in order to compensate for something deeply unsatisfying within that was once more human, what they lost in the dog-eat-dog world that we all live in.

This is the world that we pass on to our children and our grandchildren. This world is what will own them someday like it owns us today. They are truly greed’s legacy. That too is the basis for my cautionary tale of America’s future, The Joad Cycle.

But I still idealize my youth. I remember what it felt like when I was a boy and so I wrote a grand love story, too.
